Pacman

Decades Old, Still a Genuine Test of Route Planning

Pacman survives as a classic not because it's simple, but because clearing a board cleanly demands real spatial reasoning under constant pressure. Four ghosts with distinct movement patterns are always converging on your position, and the maze's tunnels let you reset their spacing if you route through them at the right moment. Power pellets flip the dynamic briefly, but that blue window closes fast — chasing every nearby ghost greedily during it often ends worse than simply using the safety to clear a dangerous pocket of pellets and move on.

Navigating the Maze and Managing Ghosts

Use the arrow keys to move Pacman through the maze, collecting pellets while staying aware of each ghost's position and likely path. Eat a power pellet to temporarily turn the tables and eat vulnerable ghosts for bonus points, but watch the timer since ghosts return to their normal, dangerous state without warning once it expires.

  • Learn each ghost's general behavior pattern rather than treating their movement as random.
  • Use tunnels deliberately to break a ghost's pursuit line rather than only as a shortcut.
  • Save power pellets for moments when multiple ghosts are clustered nearby for maximum value.
  • Clear the most dangerous, ghost-heavy sections of the maze early rather than saving them for last.
  • Keep a mental escape route in mind at all times instead of committing to a corridor with no exit.

If classic maze-chase gameplay appeals to you, the tunnel-digging chases of Dig Dug offer a similarly nostalgic arcade challenge with a different twist. Discover more classic arcade games on our all games page.
