Route Planning Disguised as an Arcade Classic
Dig Dug is a beloved arcade classic where you burrow through layers of dirt, carving your own tunnels while hunting down Pookas and Fygars hiding underground. The real puzzle is route planning: lure a monster into position under one of the level's boulders, then dig away the last bit of supporting dirt to drop the rock cleanly on top of it. Alternatively, you can attach your air pump directly to an enemy and inflate it until it pops, but that method leaves you exposed for several risky seconds. A perfectly cleared level looks slow and deliberate, with every tunnel dug for a purpose.
Controls: Dig, Pump, Escape
Use the arrow keys to move your character through dirt, digging new tunnels simply by walking into unbroken ground. Press the action button to fire your air pump at a nearby enemy in your line of sight, holding it to keep inflating them until they burst. Timing your retreat after luring an enemy under a boulder matters just as much as the dig itself, since standing too close when the rock falls costs you a life too.
- Plan boulder drops before you start luring enemies — know your escape tunnel in advance.
- Only pump enemies when you have a clear retreat path, since it locks you in place briefly.
- Watch for Fygars' fire breath range and stay out of a straight line with them when possible.
- Clear levels efficiently rather than digging randomly — extra tunnels give enemies more ways to reach you.
- Prioritize boulder kills over pumping when multiple enemies are chasing you at once.
