SUPERHOT started as a submission to a seven-day FPS game jam in 2013, built around a single idea from the Polish studio SUPERHOT Team: what if time only moved when the player did? That constraint turned out to be powerful enough to carry an entire game, since standing still freezes bullets mid-flight and lets you study a room full of red, crystalline enemies like a puzzle instead of a panic response. Every step forward, every weapon swap, every punch advances time just enough to matter, which means a "fast" reflex shooter actually plays like a slow, deliberate chess match where the payoff is a genuinely cinematic slow-motion action sequence you built yourself.
Move with WASD to advance time, and aim and shoot with the mouse — but remember that firing, throwing an object, or swinging a weapon also consumes a beat of movement time, so every action is a trade-off against how exposed you become. Disarm enemies by catching thrown weapons or knocking guns from their hands, and chain environmental objects into improvised attacks when you're out of ammo. The best runs come from planning a full sequence of moves before committing to the first one, rather than reacting enemy by enemy.
