Deltarune

About the Game

Deltarune is a narrative-driven RPG that challenges the traditional relationship between player choice and outcome. Created by Toby Fox, the game builds on familiar mechanics from Undertale, but shifts the focus toward a more controlled, and at times unsettling, storytelling structure. At first glance, the gameplay appears similar to classic turn-based RPG systems: you explore environments, encounter enemies, and choose how to respond — whether through combat or non-violent actions. However, Deltarune subtly undermines the expectation that your decisions fully shape the story. Instead, it introduces the idea that some outcomes may be predetermined, regardless of your intentions.

Controls: Arrow Keys and Z

Use the arrow keys to walk your character through towns, forests, and dungeons, and press Z to interact with objects, talk to characters, and confirm menu choices. In battle, Z confirms your selected action from the Fight, Act, Item, or Spare-style options, letting you choose between violence and clever non-lethal solutions for nearly every encounter. X often serves as a cancel or secondary menu key depending on the scene.

  • Try Act options before defaulting to Fight — many enemies have peaceful resolutions worth discovering.
  • Talk to NPCs more than once, since dialogue often changes as the story progresses.
  • Explore side rooms and dead ends thoroughly; Deltarune hides plenty of optional content off the main path.
  • Pay close attention to bullet patterns during boss fights — dodging is as important as choosing the right action.
  • Don't assume your choices always change the outcome — part of Deltarune's story is about noticing when they don't.
